Description
A souvenir masterpiece is a miniature model of one of the two towers of Barzan Castle in Umm Asal Muhammad, State of Qatar, and the added value of this masterpiece is the possibility of using it as a holder for pens or a container to collect coins or any other small things.
Barzan Tower is located on the outskirts of the city of Doha in the Umm Salal Muhammad area, and was built between 1910 and 1916 by order of Sheikh Muhammad bin Jassim Al Thani, founder of the city of Qatar, Umm Salal.
The height of the western tower, which is called Barzan Tower, is approximately 14 meters, and its shape (T-shaped) is a unique architectural style of its kind in the Gulf region, and it consists of three levels. As for the eastern tower, it embodies, in its rectangular shape, the architectural model of the Qatari towers, and it is as high as the western tower itself. It was also built of stones and was clad with mud.
According to what was reported by local oral narratives, the two towers were used to monitor the surrounding area, and to protect the watershed. Other accounts convey that the two towers were used as an astronomical observatory to follow the lunar cycle and determine dates in the Hijri calendar.
